The campus of Bures sur l’Yvette represents a fundamental part in the construction of the “Metropole de la Conaissance”. The Grand Paris is going to be an archipelago of clusters of excellence that will imply a new economic system and generate new metropolitan practices. The project contributes to improve this system by offering a strategy based upon three simple elements.
- ROOMS. The first proposed tool to structure the site is a series of rooms: a composition of small-scale common spaces distributed through the campus. Every room can host the most disparate programs and be re-programmed in a short or long term without affecting the overall masterplan. Each room tells us a story, is an ever-changing way to be part of the city.
- PLUGS. The second tool is a series of plugs: large scale public spaces directly connected to the river. We considered the Yvette as the backbone of the site and reinforced the paths that run along its banks linking the different plugs. Each of them has a specific character that diverges from sports to wetland parks.
- WALLS. The walls are represented by housing units that form a northern front counterbalancing the edge of the city at the south of the project site. Their disposition contributes to activate the central part of the campus ensuring constant flows of people from one side to the other one. Offering various student typologies, the buildings are inhabitable walls that mark and enclose the space of the rooms.
